Separation Technology Research

For more than 25 years, this research group has mainly investigated liquid-liquid separations, particularly the extraction and recovery of various trace metals and drugs from many water sources such as urban water, industrial water and ground water. Their separations can be achieved via membrane technology, namely, Hollow Fiber Supported Liquid Membrane (HFSLM). Novel extractants and environmental-friendly solvents are being investigated to improve the extraction efficiency and stability of the membrane system. The goal of this group is threefold, i.e, to protect the environment, to protect aquatic organisms, and to protect humans from the toxicity of contaminated water through the knowledge and technology of Chemical Engineering.

Research Interest

  • Development of hybrid aerobic/anaerobic bioreactor systems for biological wastewater treatment, and bioprocess (e.g. food processing and cell cultivation).
